Brinc & Halo Impact: Addressing Climate Crisis Through Investment

Brinc partners with Halo Impact, an innovations group solving some of the world’s biggest eco challenges, to launch the Circular Economy Accelerator Program. The program is focused on tech-driven circular economy solutions to enhance sustainability across multiple industries and combat the climate crisis, the defining crisis of our time.

Startups participating in the program will receive up to US$100,000 investment and resources such as mentorship, access to experts, ecosystem players, a customized curriculum, and ongoing support post-program to help startups attain their critical milestones.

Climate Crisis Forces Change

Earth’s climate crisis is a result of devastatingly unsustainable human activity. The rate of global warming since the mid-20th century is much higher than at any point in the last several millennia and greenhouse gas levels in the environment profoundly impact infrared energy transfer. Ice core samples show our current rate of warming is roughly ten times greater than the average rate of warming during periods of ice-age recovery. Alarming facts that all fail to bring change while throwaway culture reigns supreme.

Scientific evidence for the warming of the climate system is unequivocal.” – Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

On Brinc’s 6th anniversary on December 1st, 2020, Brinc pledged to do their part to address the climate crisis by setting various climate impact goals for investment seekers. All future Brinc investments must meet certain environmental commitment criteria to receive support from Brinc. With their plan to scale up to 20 global programs, Brinc will drive impact in over 1,000 investments over the next five years.

Brinc CEO Manav Gupta says, “Our goal is to sign up all our global accelerators under the sustainability umbrella as we continue to invest in game-changing founders that are building businesses that mitigate climate change by developing more sustainable agriculture, manufacturing, supply chains, etc. In a nutshell, backing businesses that are more efficient at creating high outputs (at the same quality and price) with fewer inputs (water, land usage, energy, etc.). As strong believers that change can be driven through business — Brinc has been an active investor in climate mitigation technologies over the years and we’re committing to go even further in the years to come.”

Brinc believes some of the world’s biggest challenges can be solved by entrepreneurs. With the right backing, these entrepreneurs can make a positive impact on the world and become true game-changers. Brinc supports and mentors founders and their teams, and provides investment to help them grow.

Circular Economy: A Solution to the Crisis

Nowhere on the planet is immune from the devastating consequences of climate change. To slow down the irreversible damage of climate change, this program aims to bring scalable solutions, sustainable materials, and new technologies to the fore.

The world’s current linear economy creates value by producing and selling as many products as possible. After raw materials are extracted, they are transformed into products that are used until they are discarded as waste. With a rapidly growing population, the associated rise in material production and consumer waste is grossly unsustainable.

There is a drastic need to re-evaluate this model.

Instead of discarding products, we need to reduce, reuse, and recycle the raw and finished materials used in production supply chains. We must transition to a circular economy in order to survive. Consumer culture does not need to end with waste. Through circulating and innovating, resource exploitation can be drastically reduced and sustainability becomes an achievable reality.

By investing in circular economy solutions, we believe that we can contribute and play our part in slowing down the tide of climate change.

Brinc and Halo Impact: Investing in the Future

Brinc and Halo are looking to make up to 10 investments this year.

Startups that are selected for the Circular Economy Accelerator Program will benefit from invaluable resources from some of the world’s foremost business minds.

“We believe the key to making a significant impact here is to first identify technologies and innovations that truly have the potential to accelerate the world’s transition to a circular economy. Then equipping these companies with the resources and partnerships needed for them to scale effectively and really make a difference on a regional and global level.” said Rhod Needham, Halo Impact Co-founder.

Selected startups stand to gain capital investment of at least US$80,000 via SAFE note or enter into equity negotiations.

Moreover, startups stand to further gain from support over three main areas:

  • Preparation with getting investor-ready and fundraising via Brinc’s network of investors
  • Technical support in product refinement to ensure its market readiness
  • Commercialization via access to corporate partnerships, new markets, or distribution support.

In addition to funding, we provide mentorship, networking, access to experts, food scientists, ecosystem players, distributors, investor match matching, a customized curriculum, an international startup perks package, and ongoing support post-program to help get your startup to the next level.

How to Apply & Application Requirements

Startups can apply here now.

  • Applications are open to startups globally and there is no need to be based in the program’s location.
  • Brinc and Halo Impact are looking for products that fit into the above verticals that are scalable with high growth potential.
  • Companies must have more than 2 co-founders with relevant industry experience and should have gained some fundraising traction.

The investment will be focused across the following seven verticals:

  • Circular Economy
  • Sustainable Packaging
  • New Materials
  • Recycling
  • Transparency & Traceability
  • Supply Chain Efficiency
  • Waste Management
