Brinc Recap: Techstars Startup Weekend Bahrain

Share

StartUp Bahrain recently hosted the Techstars Startup Weekend Bahrain in May, with support from sponsors like Brinc Batelco, IKEA Bahrain, and Tap Payments. This 3-day event was designed to foster Bahrain’s startup ecosystem, drawing over 140 founders, developers, designers, and marketers. The weekend kicked off with 250 attendees at an IKEA warehouse, starting with brief announcements followed by quickfire pitches, which narrowed the teams down to 35. These participants then formed teams of four or more, gearing up for an exciting day two.

Day two began at 9 am, buzzing with enthusiasm from the participants. All 35 teams dedicated time to refining their business ideas, with Brinc’s marketing team members, Sana Alibux and Ghufran Khatam, stepping in to assist one team in developing their idea and corresponding marketing strategy. Mentorship sessions and pitch deck preparations were also in full swing, leading to effective task delegation as teams prepared for the final day’s demos.

Day three saw teams presenting ideas to mentors, receiving live feedback and engaging in Q&A sessions. After a short break, the top teams were announced at the closing ceremony. Nine teams were shortlisted, with four emerging as winners. RhythmTech, a medtech company revolutionizing patient monitoring for implanted cardiac devices, claimed 1st place. Dimuma, a SaaS platform for sustainability and ESG management systems, took 2nd place. Unlabelled, which creates white-label e-commerce apps, secured 3rd place. The “Brinc Choice Award” was presented by the Head of Corporate Innovation, MENA, Hussain Haji, to Makers, which customizes furniture for kids to aid in their development and independence, along with a cash prize.

As a global leader in venture acceleration and corporate innovation, Brinc is committed to supporting local founders by actively participating in events that serve to foster the MENA region’s budding entrepreneurial community. By sponsoring and contributing to these events, Brinc hopes to continue providing crucial resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities that are essential for early-stage startups. Their involvement helps create a supportive environment where new businesses can flourish, driving innovation and economic growth in the region.

In line with this commitment, Brinc recently acquired Callmi, MENA’s #1 mentorship platform. This acquisition strengthens Brinc’s ability to provide comprehensive mentorship to startups in the region. For more details on this exciting development, you can read the full announcement here.
